Our race could be one of the most expensive House races of 2022. Here’s
why:

 1. Here in the L.A. media market, TV advertisements cost A LOT. This is
the second most expensive market in the country, and it’s 16x more
expensive than Katie’s home state of Iowa. It costs up to $3 million
just to run one TV ad. Because Orange County is a media desert
(meaning we have very few local papers) we rely on buying TV time to
reach voters.
 2. Our district contains an equal number of Democrats and Republicans, so
in order to win we need to persuade swing voters. And that’s
expensive. It’s said that it takes 12 mail pieces to persuade one
voter.

Ever since the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision allowed
corporations to flood our political system with money, elections have
gotten more and more expensive. We have to be prepared to defend Katie
against attack ads run by conservative super PACs.
