Hello,

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is a constant inspiration for us at New Politics. Not only was he a transformative leader during the civil rights era, he was an ideological forefather of the national service movement we’re working to advance today.

As we look ahead to MLK Day tomorrow, we’re reflecting on the state of Dr. King’s Dream in these troubled times. I recently spoke with Dr. David Myles, a pediatrician and Navy veteran serving on the Rockville, MD, city council, and asked for his take on the legacy of MLK’s vision. Dr. Myles is an incredible servant leader in his own right. During our conversation, he reflected on the challenges he’s up against as a doctor during this historic pandemic. I also asked him to discuss the racism he’s faced trying to campaign for office as an African-American candidate — something he wrote about in the Baltimore Sun ([link removed]) after he was racially profiled on the campaign trail.

I hope you find Dr. Myles’s message as inspiring as I did. If you’d like to support his campaign and help New Politics elect more servant leaders like David, split a donation at the link here.

In service,
Max Klau, Ed.D.
Senior Director of Leadership Development
