It
all started with a question: Wouldn't it be great if there were places
to
practice the religion you love-minus the sexism, racism, and
homophobia?
Frustrated by the male-dominated leadership of their churches, Kate
Kelly
and Eboni Marshall Turman founded Sacred Space, a multifaith gathering
for
women who have left their religious traditions and those still hoping
to change
their communities from within. Recent participants include women who
identify
as Mormon, Jewish, Catholic, Shia Muslim, Eastern Orthodox, Methodist,
and
Pentecostal. Read "All Women Welcome" in the December issue of
Sojourners
to learn how Sacred Space is providing refuge for women exhausted by
the
exclusion of their religious tradition.
