Dear John,

This summer, we announced the beginning of an Executive Director search to identify the next leader of Equality Virginia. After an extensive process led by members of our Search Committee, we are pleased to announce that Narissa Rahaman (she/her) has been unanimously selected as Executive Director, beginning February 2, 2022.

The Search Committee received more than 60 applications from a diverse range of candidates across the country for this position. Over the past four months, the committee conducted a rigorous and thorough process of reviewing these applications and holding multiple stages of interviews with numerous well-qualified candidates. Equality Virginia staff also participated and provided feedback during various stages of this process. We are especially grateful to Roey Thorpe for all of her hard work as our hiring manager.

Meet EV's New Executive Director

Narissa Rahaman (she/her/hers) is an experienced advocate and campaign manager who previously served as an Associate Regional Campaign Director for the Human Rights Campaign where she managed legislative and electoral efforts across multiple southern states. Narissa’s commitment to social justice and centering community fuels the work she does every day in the fight for full liberation for LGBTQ+ people. She is originally from Barbados, but was raised in Florida. Narissa now resides in Richmond, Virginia with her partner and their miniature long-haired dachshund named Rocket.

With significant consideration given to the skills, experiences, and expertise needed to successfully guide us in our next phase of growth, the Equality Virginia Board has selected Narissa Rahaman to serve in this important leadership role. Narissa's previous position as the Human Rights Campaign's Associate Regional Campaign Director has distinguished her as a nationally recognized leader in LGBTQ equality. Narissa also has 10+ years of experience in long-term strategic planning, multi-state organizing efforts, coalition management, and staff development, which make her an exceptional individual for the role of Executive Director. We are confident that under her leadership, the organization’s success and impact will continue to flourish as will our commitment to racial justice.

Please join us and us in welcoming Narissa as Executive Director by making a donation and showing your support for Equality Virginia's new leadership! Your financial support helps us accomplish our important work, and your donation today will help usher in an exciting new chapter for the organization. You can briefly meet Narissa at our virtual Lunch & Lobby event on January 25th. Of course, the best way to meet her will be in-person at our 19th Annual Commonwealth Dinner on March 26th

We thank you for your continued support and partnership as we welcome Narissa into her new role.

Sincerely,

Bryan Price
EV Board Chair
