Hey team -- Congress is considering a new voting rights bill, the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act. This bill combines the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis VRAA into one comprehensive democracy reform bill.

The Senate is expected to start debating this bill next Tuesday!

Besides the name, the contents of the bill haven’t really changed. But here are some highlights:
→ expand voting rights like early voting and vote-by-mail
→ modernize voter registration
→ protect voters from discriminatory voter suppression tactics
→ make voting easier by making Election Day a national holiday
→ restore voting rights to formerly incarcerated citizens
→ reform campaign finance standards
→ improve election security
→ establish transparent standards for redistricting
→ empower voters to challenge gerrymandered congressional maps
→ restore protections from the 1965 Voting Rights Act that were gutted by the Supreme Court

It’s a long but important list. This is by far the most comprehensive democracy reform bill our country has seen in decades.

Passing this bill would change the trajectory of voting rights -- and progress -- for generations to come. But we need all hands on deck to make sure Congress sends this bill to President Biden’s desk.

So here’s my request. Can you either call your senators’ office to demand action OR chip in a few dollars to support our work advocating for this bill?
