Silver Spring is one of the Washington region's most significant Black business districts, writes Dan Reed, who offers an overview of the history of the area's Black community.

On the other side of the region, guest contributor Ben Arthur outlines a bold proposal for Arlington: a property tax-funded Universal Basic Income.

How are all those residents of Arlington and Silver Spring getting to work? If they're taking transit, they may be unable to receive an equivalent benefit to their motorist coworkers' parking benefits. A new DC law could change that.

Transit, unfortunately, is facing its own challenges these days. Jonathan Katz writes that Metro without its 7000-series railcar fleet, which is out of service due to safety issues, is less accessible to people with disabilities as a result.

For some people, one way to make riding Metro just a little easier is to put your SmarTrip card on your phone. And if you do that between now and June, you could win 10 free Capital Bikeshare rides, after last year's promotion was extended.
