Hi John,
Last year saw an unprecedented mobilisation of people on the streets for climate justice, in Glasgow at COP26 and around the UK. These demonstrations built on other climate mobilisations we’ve seen in recent years, from Extinction Rebellion to Fridays for Future. Importantly, more than ever before, they also had at their heart not just demands for action on climate change, but for global economic and social justice.

More and more people are understanding that something fundamental has to change if we are to limit the worst of climate breakdown.

What we need now is for more and more people to organise for climate justice. Global Justice Now played an important role in getting people on the streets in November, both directly and through the work we did with allies as part of the COP26 Coalition. Now there are tentative plans for the COP26 Coalition to continue working together under a new name in 2022 and beyond – not just at the national level but at the level of the local hubs that were built as well.

This could be a great opportunity to build a broad, diverse and sustained climate justice movement all around the UK. Here are some things you could do to be part of that:
1. If you aren’t already involved in ongoing climate justice activism and would like to be, get in touch for advice on how to go about this. It may involve starting something in your area, but we’ll do our best to help. Just reply to this email.
2. If you are already involved in climate activism, start a discussion about how you build or sustain a climate justice coalition in your area.
3. Order copies of The Case for Climate Justice ([link removed]) . This hugely popular booklet is great for educating people about what we mean by climate justice, reading as the basis for a group discussion, or distributing on stalls, at demos, or even in sympathetic venues.

Throughout the coming year, Global Justice Now will be continuing our campaign against the threat of 'corporate courts' ([link removed]) , as well as helping to amplify the demand for climate reparations for the global south. But this will be very much our contribution to growing a wider movement that is so vital if we're to win the kind of change we need.
