The president made a clear call to Congress this week, John:

Pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.

Last year alone, 19 states passed 33 laws that suppressed voting rights. The ability of the people of America to determine and elect their own government – guaranteed to us in our constitution – has never been in a more precarious position. Corrupt, far-right Republicans have realized the only chance they have of keeping their white-knuckle grip on power is to silence our voices.

Well let me tell you directly: If I was serving in Congress today, I would be working my tail off to expand voting rights. When I was serving in the state legislature, one of my top priorities was implementing secure online voter registration that more people could use. Our neighbors in deep red states like Idaho and Utah did it – but the corrupt Montana GOP was too scared of Montana voters.

I’m not backing down – as your Congressman, I’m going to keep standing by our neighbors, take on the forces trying to silence us, and work hard to secure the right and ability to vote for all. I can’t do it alone, though – I need your help.

We all grew up believing that our democracy was built on the principle of “one person, one vote.” But the sad truth is that the forces of money polluting our politics don’t believe that.
