Last year, Texas passed a voter suppression law with sweeping restrictions that make it more difficult to vote. SB1 prohibits extending early voting hours and drive-thru voting, enables partisan poll watchers, and bans mail-in ballot applications from being sent.

My friend and colleague, Congressman Colin Allred, represents the people of Texas's 32nd District, and he's always fought to preserve voting rights – first as a voting rights attorney and now as a congressman.

Colin fought alongside me in Congress to protect voting rights by passing the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. And this week, he joined me in helping pass the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act through the House. Colin’s also been instrumental in the fight to root out corruption in our government by voting to pass the Protecting Our Democracy Act.

Colin works tirelessly for the people of Texas's 32nd District, but he's facing a tough re-election campaign. The National Republican Congressional Committee has listed him as one of their top targets in the upcoming midterm elections.
