Hey John,
I wanted to make sure you didn't miss Ezra Klein's must-read column from this week:
"Opinion: Steve Bannon Is On to Something"
"We need a Plan B for democracy. Plan A was to pass H.R. 1 and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. Neither bill, as of now, has a path to President Biden’s desk… I fear denial has left many Democrats stuck on a national strategy with little hope of near-term success. In order to protect democracy, Democrats have to win more elections. And to do that, they need to make sure the country's local electoral machinery isn't corrupted by the Trumpist right."

Ezra's right (and I'm not just saying that because he interviewed me for this piece). If progressives only think about national solutions and House and Senate races this year, we will lose our democracy.
Winning local races is what saves our democracy.
All across the country, anti-vax, anti-history, violent QAnon supporters and extremists are running for everything from the secretary of state (usually the top election official in a state) to school boards.
Run for Something is one of the only national progressive organizations getting involved in so many of these races, and right now, we're figuring out how many candidates we can recruit and support.
How many diverse young progressives we can help run and win against the Trumpist machine depends on you. Can you chip in
$5
or anything you can to support more diverse young progressives?

The issues we run into on these local campaigns aren't always the same issues we face in federal elections. It's often not about having the right focus group-tested message, and it's not even about increasing voter turnout to historic levels. It's about funding.
I've said it before, and I'll repeat it: Democratic major donors like to fund the flashy things. Amy McGrath can raise $90 million against Mitch McConnell in a doomed race. Yet, when it comes to city council and school board candidates, the diverse young progressives running are often left with scraps.
There is a simple solution to building lasting power and saving our democracy. It's investing in local races. Can you chip in
$5
, or anything you can to elect diverse young progressives to these critical offices?
Let's go,
