Dear John,
I want to share some updates with you from Congress and across the country. Here are three things to know today:
-
On Tuesday, I joined President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and Democratic members of the Georgia Congressional Delegation in Atlanta to urge swift action on voting rights legislation currently pending before the United States Senate. This call to action comes as both the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Freedom to Vote Act are awaiting a vote by the United States Senate. The faith in and integrity of our elections are strengthened when we empower more of our citizens to vote. Across the country, we are seeing new laws proposed and implemented by simple majorities in state legislatures that aim to suppress votes and subvert elections. The U.S. Senate must respond in kind and act, no longer shackled by the filibuster, to protect our democracy and pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act as well as the Freedom to Vote Act.

I want to applaud the Biden Administration for the announcement of their recent victory in a trade dispute with Canada related to dairy restrictions. This announcement highlights the first dispute settlement under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). The USMCA panel agreed with the United States that Canada is breaching its commitments regarding its dairy tariff-rate quotas in favor of Canadian processors. This is a welcome victory for United States dairy farmers and helps ensure a fair playing field for them to compete in the global market. Middle and Southwest Georgia farmers lead our state’s milk economy and this hard-fought victory on the international stage will be of great benefit here at home.

Recently, my opponent raised $100k in just 10 days. Election day might seem like a long ways away, but in reality, we are moving closer to the finish line at an alarmingly quick rate — and we don’t want to watch our opponent pass us. Please, help us keep pace by making a donation today.
Thank you for reading my updates and for your ongoing engagement.
Stay well, enjoy your weekend, and know that I am working hard for you every day.
Sincerely,
Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr.
