Team,
As we celebrate the profound legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. this month, I cannot help but reflect on his strong conviction to lead with love. It was at the very root of his activism to move America toward a more perfect union. As he once said:
“I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.”
Today, we must continue to stick with love, as the forces of hate grow more intense and seek to divide. Over 55 years after the Voting Rights Act was signed into law, we find ourselves in the midst of an assault on our democracy and equal access to the ballot box.
That's why I was proud to vote for the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act – bills that would both protect and strengthen our democracy by ensuring that
all Americans have an equal say in the future of our country.
It was through love and compassion that Dr. King helped our nation recognize the need for equal voting rights. So in 2022 and beyond, we must continue to remember what he taught us: In the face of challenges like glaring inequalities at the ballot box,
when we work together, we can do what is right and defend our democratic values.
To that end, I'm asking you today, friend, to join me in calling on the Senate to pass the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act ahead of the 2022 election to revitalize our democracy. Can you please add your name to our petition below?
"Democracy is not a state. It is an act, and each generation must do its part." These are the words of civil rights leader and late Congressman John Lewis. So if we are to forge better days ahead, we must do exactly that.
Act. We must uplift the values that Dr. King so powerfully articulated and defended. Chief among them: love. We must love our neighbors and our nation. And through the power of love, we must champion racial justice and equality.
Honoring Dr. King means doing so through more than words – but through our actions. These actions include passing legislation that would not only strengthen and restore parts of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, but also modernize our elections by expanding voting rights and giving people protections from gerrymandering and national dark money campaign influencers.
Our vote is our voice, and we cannot let anything or anyone dictate otherwise. Our democracy cannot function without the most fundamental tool to communicate directly with our government – the right to vote.
So please, add your name alongside mine and sign the petition to help get the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act passed through the Senate >>
In the spirit of Dr. King, I hope you, too, will do what you can to maintain your voice and the voices of others in our democratic system.
With love,
Antonio
