WE NEED ACTION NOW: Call your senators now and tell them to protect voting rights
John --
Yesterday, the House passed H.R. 5746, the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act, a bill that combined the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. As with the previous bills passed by the house, this legislation ensures equal access to the ballot for all and restores the full protections of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which were stripped away by the Supreme Court in 2013.
The fight to protect voting rights since the 2020 election has been an uphill battle and this vote likely means we are nearing the end of the process. Things are changing quickly in Washington, but we do know a few things for sure:
It feels poignant such a consequential voting rights bill could be brought up for a vote right after Martin Luther King, Jr. Day -- a day that celebrates and honors the work of one of our greatest civil rights leaders. The time is NOW to put as much pressure on the Senate as possible to pass the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act and ensure that all Americans have the ability to meaningfully participate in democracy through our most fundamental right to vote. This is it -- voting rights for all are on the line. Thank you for being with us in this fight.
