The Alliance for Development in Democracy: A Conversation Among Diplomats Understanding the Recent Turmoil in Kazakhstan
Last year, the presidents of Panama, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic came together to launch the Alliance for Development in Democracy to strengthen democracy and economic growth between the countries. We check in with their respective Foreign Ministers. Sparked by protests about the price of gas in the country, the government of Kazakhstan has cracked down on civilian demonstrators, cut off internet for much of the country, and called in support from the Russian government to handle opposition. Former U.S. Ambassador George Krol explains these and other dramatic shifts.
