California Not Meeting Emission Reduction Goals by Doubling Down on Policy Mistakes

Any argument that says the economic downsides are mere inconveniences that have to be borne to reach a green existence is overturned by the fact that “clean energy” policies are clearly failing to accomplish policymakers’ stated goals. California needs to rethink its methods, and then retool its policies. If not, Next 10 will be producing a series of similar reports in the future.

Rebuilt Capitol Annex Will Expand Public's Ability to Make Voices Heard

With our evolving citizen democracy, Californians are far more engaged with their state lawmakers than ever before.  Capitol hallways today are routinely jam packed with citizens groups and advocates wanting to meet with their representatives or testify at committee hearings.  The current building footprint simply isn’t large enough to accommodate the public to make their voices heard.

Taxes Up, Roads Still Down, Nothing New

Voters had a chance in 2018 to repeal SB1 through Proposition 6. But 57% rejected the effort. So Californians are stuck with higher taxes, construction progress that is “lagging,” and funding that is “sufficient only to complete less than half of the work needed.” Policymakers could do a better job of keeping their promises if they didn’t siphon off revenues supposedly dedicated to road repair and allocate them to unrelated expenditures.
