John,

We all know that electric vehicles are a key component to reach our nation’s carbon emissions goals by 2030. But apparently, that’s not so evident to the current postmaster general, who was appointed under Trump.

The United States Postal Service has plans to buy 50,000 to 165,000 new delivery vehicles over the next ten years. But so far, the USPS has indicated that they’re sticking to their plans only to have 10% of this new delivery fleet run on electric batteries.

This directly contradicts the Biden administration’s executive order to scale up federal government procurement of electric vehicles, reaching 100% of federal vehicle purchases being zero emission by 2035.

After environmentalist pushback, the USPS now states their willingness to make all of their new fleet electric…so long as they receive billions of additional dollars in funding.

This underlines just how critical it is to pass bills like Build Back Better that will provide the funding and framework to revitalize our government and economy for a sustainable future.

It’s vital that we continue the transition to zero-emission vehicles that will clean up our air and help protect us from the climate crisis at every opportunity available.

SEEC Members understand what’s at stake during these delicate times, which is why they’re pushing for sustainable recovery policies that will help support the continued adoption of zero-emission electric vehicles. Chip in to support our SEEC members, who will keep fighting to make sure the needed transition to zero-emission vehicles isn’t stunted by Trump administration holdovers.
