Hey friend , Happy New Year. I hope your holiday season was as restful as possible.

Last Thursday marked one year since a group of armed insurrectionists stormed the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to forcefully overturn the results of the 2020 election. In the ensuing months, Republicans across the country launched a coordinated campaign against the foundation of our democracy – voting rights. Sadly, they’re winning as of now; 19 states passed a flurry of restrictive, anti-voter measures aimed at curbing the right to vote in 2021, with more on the way this year if we don’t take action soon:

As we begin a new year, the same fight continues to protect our sacred right to vote. What’s more, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer recently signaled that the Senate must protect voting rights on or before MLK Day 2022 – which is this Monday.

So, here are some quick actions you can take to make a big impact on the fight for our democratic rights in the new year:

→ Sign on to Martin Luther King III’s call for President Biden and Senate Democrats to deliver for voting rights:

→ Mobilize for voting rights with Martin Luther King III, Arndrea Waters King, and Yolanda Renee King, activists, and progressive organizations in Phoenix, Arizona or Washington, D.C., this weekend. Learn more at deliverforvotingrights.com.

→ Call your senator at 1-888-408-2349 and demand they eliminate the filibuster to protect our voting rights.

Friend , protecting our voting rights is one of the most important fights we will face in our lifetimes. I truly believe that together we can create a democracy that works for and represents all Americans – so thank you for fighting alongside us.

In solidarity –
