Nuclear Weapons are banned: what does this mean for Britain?
Friday 23rd January at 3-4.30pm
Hosted by Parliamentary CND, this meeting will launch a new report – authored by Rebecca Johnson – which looks at the implications for Britain joining the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) and the next steps for getting rid of Britain’s nuclear weapons.
With guest speakers:
Dr Rebecca Johnson, CND Vice-President, Acronym, ICAN
Kirsten Oswald, SNP MP and Chair of Parliamentary CND
Julian Borger, The Guardian world affairs editor
Aidan Liddle, UK Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva.
Chair – Kate Hudson, CND General Secretary
This meeting takes place in the anniversary week of this historic agreement entering into force in 2021.
States parties to the TPNW are banned from developing, testing, producing, manufacturing, acquiring, possessing, stockpiling, transferring, using or threatening to use nuclear weapons. It also makes it illegal to assist or encourage anyone to engage in these activities.
Polling commissioned by CND shows that 59% of the public support the UK government signing up to the TPNW.
We hope you can join us.
