Dear John
It’s all eyes on Monday here at Best for Britain.
The Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill is going through the
House of Lords and our amendment on Clause 59 is set to be tabled on
Monday.
Clause 59 of the bill will place a total ban on protests in
Parliament Square, not through direct legislation, but through sneaky
covert technicalities that will ultimately make such protests
logistically illegal.
At Best for Britain, we’ve worked closely with Peers to put forward
an amendment to this clause which should overturn its most damaging
effects. Then, hopefully, we can preserve and protect our democratic
rights.
You can find out more about this amendment and Best for Britain’s
work by reading this
blog from our Director of Campaigns Tom Brufatto.
Working closely with parliamentarians is a crucial strand of our
work. It is through parliament that we can influence direct political
change. And so ordinary people, without political connections, should
be able to have their voices heard in the vicinity of Parliament,
where they will have the most impact.
Best wishes,
Naomi Smith
CEO - Best for Britain
P.S. If you haven’t yet
signed our petition to save the right to protest in Parliament Square,
you can do so here.
