Dear John,
Big news for 2022! The Field Services and Education Department has partnered with the AFL-CIO on a brand new Learning Management System (LMS): Labor Lab!
All FSED webinars are now hosted on Labor Lab, including all materials, Zoom links, and course completion certificates. Once you have created a user ID and password, you can view and subscribe to any available webinars. Click here to read a brief overview of the Labor Lab system, or visit www.afge.org/LaborLab for more information.
We have four upcoming January webinars — just click on the link below to create a login and register for the class:
Wednesday, January 19, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Eastern time: Workers’ Compensation: Appeals. This one-day follow-up to the basic Workers’ Compensation course covers the types of appeals, how to complete an appeal form, and submission of the form in the ECOMP system. Examples of denied claims will be discussed. Previous attendance of the Basic Workers’ Comp webinar is highly encouraged.
Friday, January 21, 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Eastern time: Online Stewards Orientation. A must for new stewards (or stewards who never received formal training), this introductory webinar overviews the role of the steward, active worksite representation, and one of the most important laws that outlines the rights of union representatives: 5 USC Chapter 71.
Wednesday, January 26, 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Eastern time: Mental Health Awareness Training. We’re glad to continue our Mental Health Awareness training with Kaiser Permanente. This interactive workshop is ideal for stewards, local leaders and members looking for ways to support members and co-workers. It is intended to raise awareness of mental health conditions and create a stigma-free workplace. The skills we learn in this class can help us cope with the challenges of our new normal and provide methods to support our members and coworkers who may be struggling at work and at home.
Monday, January 31, 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Eastern time: Local Officers Online Orientation. This overview training is designed to acquaint local leaders with the roles and responsibilities of elected officers and provide general information and resources needed to begin the process of building a strong and effective local. Legal, fiduciary, and reporting requirements are discussed, as are planning and budgeting.
We look forward to engaging with you on our new training platform!
In Solidarity,
AFGE
