I’m calling on you to honor my father’s legacy by demanding federal voting rights legislation Indivisibles,
We have just five days until the deadline Majority Leader Schumer set for the Senate to consider changes to Senate rules -- January 17, Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Today I’m calling on you to honor my father’s legacy by joining me and my family -- my wife, Arndrea Waters King, and our daughter, Yolanda Renee King -- and taking action to demand that the Senate restore and protect our right to vote.
On Monday, my family and I will march across the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge as part of the D.C. Peace Walk to send a strong message that there can be no celebration without legislation. We expect senators to deliver for voting rights by passing the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act -- especially in D.C., where residents still lack representation in the Senate. We need you to join us:
Join us for the D.C. Peace Walk on Monday, January 17 at 9AM -- First St. SE & Potomac Ave. SE
MLK Day is traditionally a day of service, so no matter whether you can join an event or not, I’m asking you to take action this weekend. Senators need to hear from you about why it’s crucial to pass federal voting rights protections. Here’s what you can do:
The filibuster has been used over and over again to uphold the structures of racism -- and this time is no different. It’s time for that to end. President Biden and Congress need to serve the people by protecting democracy and ensuring the right to vote for all Americans. This weekend, we’re honoring Dr. King by taking action to demand they do it. I hope you’ll join us.
In solidarity, Martin Luther King III
