John —

Let’s be crystal clear: The choice between protecting the filibuster and protecting our right to vote isn’t a hard one. It’s time we abolish the filibuster. But today, we learned that efforts to change the Senate rules in order to pass voting rights legislation hit a major snag.

Val’s said that if Pennsylvanians elect her to the U.S. Senate, it’ll be to get stuff done for them. The filibuster stands in the way of that.

As it stands, the filibuster means that a single U.S. Senator can block progress on critical legislation, even if a majority of the U.S. Senate, or 51 Senators, voted to pass it.

And Republicans in the minority have abused that privilege for months — including to block progress on voting rights.

The American people turned out in record numbers in the last election because they wanted to see progress on some of our most important issues, yet because of the filibuster, much of this progress is stalled. That’s unacceptable.

Will you sign on to our petition demanding the Senate abolish the filibuster and protect our democracy?

In a speech this week, President Biden demanded the Senate change its filibuster rules so we can finally pass legislation that protects voting rights — saying “I’m tired of being quiet.” President Biden’s right, John.

Voters demanded change. It shouldn’t take a supermajority of Senators to get critical legislation passed like protecting and expanding the right to vote.

As Pennsylvania’s next Senator, Val is committed to abolishing the filibuster and protecting voting rights, but we can’t let our priorities die in the meantime.
