Team,
In November of 2021, justice was finally served for Ahmaud Arbery and his family when the jury found all three defendants guilty of murder. Last week, the defendants were sentenced to life in prison.
As a mother of 5 Black children, it was a tough trial to watch as these issues hit very close to home. When the defendant’s lawyers used racist dog whistles as part of their defense, it showed us what we knew all along – our criminal justice system is broken.
That’s why, as an accomplished attorney and a Congresswoman for the U.S. Virgin Islands, a majority Black territory of the United States, I’m leading the fight to root out racism and fix these flaws in our criminal justice system.
We need to continue calling attention every time this repeats itself throughout our country. No family should go through the pain that Ahmaud Arbery and countless others have endured. If you are in a position to do so, will you please make a contribution to support my efforts today?
