John, have you heard the news? MPs voted YES to taking serious action on climate change by passing the Zero Carbon Bill!

This means that New Zealand is going to be doing our bit to address the climate crisis, setting up a Climate Change Commission and enshrining the target of stopping global temperatures rising above 1.5ºC into law.

It’s a historic moment — and it belongs to all of New Zealand. It belongs to Labour supporters who signed our petition and made submissions on the Bill, the students who took to the streets and the parents and teachers and loved ones who joined them, to the business leaders who have stepped up to do things differently, to the farmers who have committed to reducing emissions, and to everyone who called for change. Thanks to all of you, our children and grandchildren will inherit a safer planet.

Thank you to everyone who joined the people-powered movement to pass this vital Bill. It’s your support that got us here.

Now, we’d like your help again — this time, to help spread the good news! Share our graphic to let your friends and family know we’re acting on climate change.

This win will make a huge difference for our future, but it doesn’t sit in isolation. It builds upon all the work we’ve done so far — planting over 140 million trees, investing in renewable energy, reaching a historic consensus to price agricultural emissions for the first time by 2025, supporting green investment and more.

In the last two years, we’re proud to have done more than any past Government to address climate change.

Of course, there’s still more to do, and we’ll keep you updated as we continue to make progress on tackling climate change and the other long-term challenges facing New Zealand.

Right now though, it’s time to celebrate a historic step forward — so will you help us spread the news? Share our graphic on Facebook.

Thanks for all your support,

Labour Campaigns Team
