Hi John,
I tweeted last week that there are 28 empty homes for every homeless person in the US — a fact I got from Census data. While the responses were mostly supportive, I also got responses like this: I love it when instead of engaging on the facts, people give me casual sexism instead!
It’s easier to say that, since I’m a woman, I must watch Sex and the City and get my facts from there. I guess as a woman, I’m unable to read spreadsheets from the Census?
There are over 550,000 homeless people in the U.S., and 4.7 million people are likely to be evicted in the next 2 months. Almost 20% of Americans have lost their entire life savings during the pandemic. Countless people are living in subpar living conditions — like the 17 people who died in a Bronx apartment building fire — because they can’t afford anything else.
It’s time to treat housing like a human right in this country. If you agree, please donate now to help me fight for housing in Congress. You can use any of the links below ⬇️

I am a housing rights organizer, and I’ve risked arrest occupying empty buildings to get more housing for our homeless community in Tacoma. With so many empty homes and buildings, there’s no good reason for people to freeze to death on the street.
Thank you for your support,
