We Flipped Virginia!
In 2016, we were told it would be impossible to flip Virginia blue any time soon, but through three years of hard work and two elections, Democrats have taken control of both the senate and the house of delegates in Virginia for the first time in over 20 years, giving them control of the entire state government. Hala and Josh also both won their races, and will head to the statehouse next year to make great change in Virginia.
And we couldn't have done it without you, our volunteers! Over the course of this year, our chapter knocked on 1,674 doors, made 3,636 phone calls, as well as raising money on Hala and Josh's behalf. These state races come down to every dollar, every knock, every phone call, and every postcard, so you have helped make a difference!
This has been our chapter's second election in Virginia, and when we started off in 2017 working to get Elizabeth Guzman and Lee Carter elected, we were a brand new group looking at very long odds. That year, both our candidates won, and we came so close to flipping the house of delegates. Control came down to one vote, and then a coin flip, and we didn't quite get there. This year we DID IT, working with so many other grassroots groups to get this done.
