People For Member,
This week President Biden will take the rare step of addressing the Senate
Democratic caucus in person, with voting rights as the top item on the
agenda. He will make the case for them to “fix or nix” the filibuster to
pass desperately needed voting rights bills: the Freedom to Vote Act and
the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has pledged to vote on measures that would
reform the filibuster by MLK Jr. Day on Monday, to set the stage for votes
on these historic measures that have been blocked by months of Republican
obstruction.
[ [link removed] ]Sign the petition now and DEMAND that the Senate pass these bills right
away and “fix or nix” the filibuster to get the job done! >>
In his most forceful speech to date on the fight to safeguard our
democracy from far-right attacks, President Biden put it as plainly as
possible to the American people:
Jim Crow 2.0 is about two insidious things: voter suppression and
election subversion. It’s no longer about who gets to vote; it’s about
making it harder to vote. It’s about who gets to count the vote and
whether your vote counts at all.
It’s not hyperbole; this is a fact.
So, while we’re thrilled that President Biden is condemning those who
stand in the way of protecting our sacred right to vote from Republican
attacks, we know that pressure on the Senate MUST be increased if these
bills have any chance to pass and be enacted in time for the midterm
election.
[ [link removed] ]Add your name now and demand that the Senate take immediate action to
pass both bills to protect and strengthen our democracy – there is simply
too much at stake >>
Thanks as always for all that you do and for standing beside us in this
fight.
Zach, People For the American Way
