CCL makes over 10k contacts to Congress during BBB negotiations
Since last week’s Weekly Briefing, CCL volunteers rallied at the call to action, smashing the goal of 10,000 contacts to Congress. Currently, CCL volunteers have made 11,808 contacts to the President and to the Senate. Now we’re reaching for the next big milestone: 15,000 contacts. While Congress is currently focused on voting rights to begin the midterm year, they are continuing to plan their next steps on Build Back Better. That is why this period of time is so valuable for calling and emailing to elevate climate as a priority, explains CCL Strategy Director Tony Sirna. Learn more in Tony’s CCL Community post here. In other news this week:
- January 6 statement: Last week marked the first anniversary of the Jan. 6 Capitol attack. The events of that day ran counter to the core values that we believe in: appreciation and gratitude for one another, respectful relationships with elected leaders, and faith in the institutions of our democracy. - Beef up communication skills: One way to work on respectful and productive communication is through attending a Braver Angels workshop. This workshop on Jan. 30 is produced by California CCLers, but welcomes attendees from coast to coast to learn effective ways to discuss climate change in a challenging time. - CCL’s Conservative Conference: CCL’s Conservative Conference is set to be in person in Washington, D.C., on Mar. 29 and 30. Attendees will get to rub elbows with Republican members of Congress and the best of the eco-right as we discuss the opportunities provided by conservative climate action. If you have a little time: Like and share this tweet from Sen. Hickenlooper Senator John Hickenlooper (D-CO) tweeted on Tuesday about the importance of a carbon price. "If we want to reduce carbon emissions, combat climate change, and incentivize innovation, we must put a price on carbon," he said. You can like and share that tweet here. 12-year-old Maine volunteer gets LTE published
Most middle-schoolers are concerned with the latest video game or boy band, but 12-year-old CCL volunteer Thea Dugas is worried about climate change. Thea, from Maine, recently saw her letter to the editor published in Portland Press Herald, in which she made the case for effective climate action. Thea writes, “When you read this, are you going to take a few notes and put it aside, or are you going to research actions everyday people like you can take?” Thea encourages readers to join CCL and push for a carbon price.
