This is HUGE. A single-payer health care bill in California just passed the Assembly health committee.

National Nurses United

This is HUGE.

For the past year, our team and supporters in California have been working to pass AB 1400, a historic bill that would establish a single-payer, Medicare for All type health care system in the state.

And last night, it cleared a major hurdle on the path to becoming law, passing in the Assembly Health Committee by an 11-3 vote!

This was the first major hurdle for AB 1400 – also known as CalCare – and it’s a huge victory for our movement for single-payer health care. If enacted, CalCare would set a precedent for the rest of the country and help us pass Medicare for All nationwide.

But we still have a long way to go — which is why we’re reaching out to you today. CalCare has to clear one more legislative hurdle by January 21 before heading to the Assembly floor for a full vote. Right now, it’s critical that California legislators see an enormous wave of support for AB 1400.

Will you help us fight for single-payer health care by celebrating California’s major victory on your Facebook and Twitter?

These next few weeks, we’re going to leave it all on the field in California and mobilize our movement like never before to pass AB 1400. And the more activists we have showing their support in places like Pennsylvania, the louder our call for health care justice in California will be.

Thank you for being part of it. Together, let’s keep making history.
