The worst wave of voter suppression in decades is unfolding in statehouses
across the country.

We have a bill on the table that would strengthen voting protections
before the 2022 elections, but in order to pass it, we need Senators Joe
Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema to support an exception to the filibuster so
these bills can be voted on.

Senate leadership has been clear that getting as many calls, emails, and
everything in between to both Senators Manchin and Sinema is important. So
that’s where you come in:

support changes to filibuster rules so that we can protect our democracy
and pass essential voting rights legislation?

Last year alone, 19 states passed 33 laws that make it harder for
Americans to vote.^1

The John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act would prevent some of the
worst of these voting rights attacks in time for the 2022 elections.

This bill has been stuck in Senate gridlock for months as the Republican
minority continues to abuse the filibuster to block its passage.

But the truth is that exceptions to the filibuster can and have been made
— many times! In fact, between 1969 and 2014, 161 exceptions to the
filibuster’s supermajority requirement were created.^2

While we work to abolish the filibuster altogether, it’s critical that we
take the necessary steps now to protect voting rights. Only then will we
have a chance at electing more Senators who support the will of the
people.
