With his recent speech in Georgia, President Biden endorsed changes to Senate rules that would limit the filibuster when debating voting rights legislation.

If Biden’s proposed filibuster “carve out” were to take effect, Republicans would no longer be able to employ the filibuster to stall voting rights legislation.

These changes would be a huge step in defending voters rights and putting an end to the voter suppression tactics spurred by the filibuster.

From the 1950s, when it was used to restrict civil rights legislation and maintain Jim Crow, to 2022, the filibuster has been employed by Republicans as a means to disenfranchise voters.

That is why we stand with President Biden’s stance on the filibuster, supporting his proposed changes to Senate rules.
