John,
In 2020, working people turned out in record numbers to make our voices heard at the polls.
Ever since then, Republicans have responded by trying to silence our voices through an all-out assault on the right to vote and our democracy itself.
Now, we are entering a midterm election year — and with redistricting well underway and elections starting in just a few weeks, we're almost out of time.
We need our senators to act IMMEDIATELY to end the filibuster and pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to strengthen voting protections before the 2022 elections.
Will you take just a minute to email your senators and tell them to end the filibuster and take immediate action to protect and strengthen voting rights? The Senate is planning to consider changes to filibuster rules as soon as this week.

The worst wave of voter suppression in decades is unfolding in statehouses across the country, John. At least 19 states have passed 34 laws restricting access to voting in the past year. And in total, Republicans have introduced more than 440 bills that restrict voting access in 49 of the 50 states.
Here's just some of what they're trying to do:
- They're trying to close down polling places in communities of color.
- They're going after mail-in voting and dropboxes.
-
They're proposing racist gerrymanders of districts for offices that will be in place for the next decade, from school boards to Congress.
-
And they're going right after election officials themselves, all in preparation for trying to overturn the democratically expressed will of the people the next time any elections don't go their way.
The Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act would prevent some of the worst of these attacks on democracy in time for the 2022 elections. But there's literally no time to waste. Both of these bills have been stuck in the United States Senate for months, but Democrats have allowed the Republican minority to block their passage through abuse of the filibuster. Meanwhile, many new district lines have already been drawn, and the first primaries are just a few weeks from today.
Access to voting is more important than an obscure and arbitrary Senate rule that reactionaries have used time and time again to uphold white supremacy and deny the clear will of the people. It's time for the filibuster to end and for our members of Congress to act decisively to protect our democracy.
Please take one moment right now to contact your senators and urge them to abolish the filibuster and pass voting rights protections immediately:
