Hi John,
We have some big news to share: TextOut, the texting software that you all helped make so successful, has been acquired by Civitech. This is a HUGE and exciting new chapter for Open Progress, and we are excited for you to be a part of it.
Before we go any further, don’t worry! Nothing here at TextTroop is going to change. This is really a behind-the-scenes change. In selling TextOut, Open Progress is able to realize the benefits of its hard work while also ensuring TextOut moves to a new home where it has its best opportunity to thrive in today’s political texting landscape.
So, what does this mean for Open Progress Text Troop? As far as volunteering day-to-day, you won’t notice any changes! TextOut will remain our preferred P2P texting platform, and we’ll continue to use the same Slack channels. If anything, this new chapter will open up even more campaigns for Text Troopers to take part in, allowing us to make change and support progress in even more towns, cities, and states!
You may wonder: who is Civitech ([link removed]) ? Good news: we think you’ll like them, a lot. They are an organization that creates technology infrastructure to help progressive candidates win, from the grassroots to the federal level. You may remember them from the voter registration work we did alongside them and DAGA in 2019 in the Mississippi AG race or the 2020 voter registration work launched with us. Thus, they’re not strangers; quite the opposite, and that is a big part of why we’re so excited to tell you about this great news.
Headed into the midterms in 2022, we feel more energized than ever. We know the work will be hard, but we can’t think of a better way to start this new chapter. It would not have been possible without our entire Text Troop team, including you. I’m excited for this new era and to see what we accomplish next.
