So when the U.S. Department of Transportation announced a federal grants program, Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE), our team knew it would take collaboration with leaders across our district to efficiently put this funding to work for the people of Northwest Indiana.
One example of this investment brought to life is the Marquette Trail. This funding will support communities to complete their Marquette Trail segments, and once complete, areas like Burns Harbor will be able to highlight their connection to Chicago and Michigan. With the development of the trail and the foot traffic it will bring, Burns Harbor is planning to invest $49 million in its town center to build a new community center and town hall complex.
As these plans for investment are brought to life, so is our regional economy.
The impacts of the federal investments in our district extend far beyond the initial round of federal funding: the domino effect it will have on our regional economy through job creation and improvements to quality of life for our communities will continue for decades to come.
