Dear John
The Conservative Party’s leadership will be decided tomorrow. I supported Jeremy Hunt, but I hope the Party will unite around whoever wins. The new Prime Minister will have a huge task to deliver Brexit and re-energise domestic policy, and on Saturday I wrote about the key Whitehall reforms which he should make to achieve his goals. In an article for local newspapers I explained why I still believe that Brexit should be delivered through a deal, and in an interview with Talk Radio I warned that suspending Parliament as a means of achieving 'no deal' would be a serious mistake.
I joined my constituency neighbour Sir Nicholas Soames MP to voice my strongly-held objection to the proposed Mayfield Market Town. At a packed meeting of more than 500 local residents in St Peter’s Church, Henfield, we pledged that we would continue to fight this unsustainable proposal.
I have been attending many constituency events throughout the summer, and especially enjoyed visiting the RSPB’s nature reserve at Pulborough to see lapwings, for which I am ‘species champion’. I have also had the pleasure of meeting groups of local schoolchildren from Wisborough Green Primary School and Steyning Grammar School on their visits to Parliament.
Last month I launched the Global Equality Caucus at the United Nations in New York, and my work to fight TB was rewarded when the Government renewed its support for the Global Fund, a commitment which will help save millions of lives.
Please see below a selection of recent articles, speeches and news releases from my website, nickherbert.com. I hope you will find this a useful source of information about my work representing you in Parliament.
If you have any issues you would like to raise with me, whether local or national, please do not hesitate to get in touch. I can be reached by e-mail at [email protected].
With kind regards.
Yours sincerely
