Everyday I ride my bike around Natures Way, now, more often than not, a Sheriff deputy is standing in for at least one of the four crossing guards, another post has been abandoned entirely.

My own kids are often late for school, many others hours late, due to staffing shortages of bus drivers. School food service and custodial staff are also critically short. My bill HB1017 is designed to help!

We want these workers to earn a living wage, and in the private market employers, like myself, are offering raises and bonuses to fill our vacant positions. But in the beuocracy of the public sector, it's often much harder to nimbly offer pay and bonuses to attract and retain critical positions.

My bill changes that. It allows school Superintendents to identify positions with critical vacancy rates for additional state funding to fill the gap. It's a win for our kids and employees.

If you want to help me pass this great bill (or any other), you can e-mail the committees it's referenced to over at our 2022 Action Center by clicking here. [[link removed]]
