Dear John,
Our work is under threat
Do you remember when Best for
Britain proudly stood shoulder to shoulder in Parliament Square with
thousands of people, all of us protesting for a cause we believe
in?
While we didn’t see a second
referendum on EU membership, at least our voices - and yours - were
heard without obstruction.
But now, with the Police, Crime,
Sentencing and Courts Bill, our rights to protest are under
threat.
Clause 59 of this bill will
introduce legislation that will effectively make protesting in
Parliament Square illegal, by introducing several logistical
impediments that would make it impossible for us to stage
demonstrations.
Alongside peers, we have worked to
table amendments to this clause of the Bill, which represents a subtle
but dangerous attempt by the Government to deprive us of our
freedoms.
Will you show the Government that
you oppose its creeping authoritarianism by signing our petition? By
signing you will be affirming your belief that the right to protest in
Parliament Square must be preserved.
Allow us, and organisations like
ours, the chance to keep doing our vital work and holding this
Government to account. Sign
the petition today.
Best wishes,
Cary Mitchell,
Director of Operations, Best for Britain
