We wanted to reach out to make sure you saw Lucy’s comments that made the headlines last week (forwarded below). She blasted Georgia’s Republican Governor Brian Kemp for his reckless right-wing proposal that would endanger children and families by loosening our gun laws. “Permitless carry” would put more guns into Georgia communities and make it easier for folks who shouldn’t legally have a weapon to carry. It's under consideration right now, and we can’t allow it to pass! Thanks for taking action with us, – Team Lucy ~~ Lucy's message from last week ~ John – This morning, Republican Governor Brian Kemp officially announced his support for “permitless carry” at a press conference held at the “World’s Biggest Gun Store” in Smyrna, Georgia. He was flanked by supporters from the NRA gun lobby, who are pushing for this change. Make no mistake, John – if Georgia makes this reckless and unnecessary change to our gun laws, it will lead to more gun violence – and more of our community members and children will lose their lives. This proposal is one that puts partisan politics over people’s lives, and it really hits close to home for me – because the gun laws of this country failed to protect my own son. It’s simple, John. Looser gun laws lead to more guns in our communities. More guns in our communities will lead to more deaths, many of them accidental and suicides. Please join me and say you’re against Gov. Kemp’s extreme far-right proposal to loosen our state’s existing gun safety laws → The man who murdered my son was carrying the exact type of gun that Governor Kemp’s proposal would make it easier to carry – especially for those who shouldn’t have access to any gun in the first place. John, irresponsible gun laws like this have ripped my family apart and I am tired of our leaders turning a blind eye to gun safety. I ran for Congress because our leaders were not doing enough to keep us safe, and I refuse to be silent when our Governor puts our communities – and our children’s lives – in danger.
