The idea that Senator Bernie Sanders popularized in his 2016 campaign,
that we need a political revolution within the Democratic Party – is still
true today.

We need a party that empowers grassroots activists, brings new people into
the process, and aggressively asserts a positive, economically
progressive, and racially inclusive vision for the future of our country.

So, with news that Nancy Pelosi will indeed step down as Speaker whether
Democrats retain control of the U.S. House or not, we must make sure the
next Speaker of the Democratic Party will reflect the will of younger,
diverse generations of voters who believe in and fight for a reflective
democracy.

The next Speaker will be the most important figure in setting and
executing a new direction for the Democratic Party, and ordinary people
must have a seat at the table in deciding who that person will be.
