With President Biden endorsing changes to Senate rules, the fight against the filibuster is picking up.
While Biden’s stance is great progress for defending voters’ rights, his announcement has caused Joe Manchin to strengthen his position in support of the filibuster.
With the filibuster intact, Republicans will continue to thwart any impactful voting rights legislation. Unless Senate rules are adjusted to restrict the filibuster, as Biden has supported, future voting rights legislation will be limited.
With such a slim majority needed to change Senate rules, Manchin’s decisions regarding the filibuster are imperative to the state of voting rights.
