Today, state senators and representatives headed back to Tallahassee for the 2022 Legislative Session. And Republican leaders in the legislature are getting right to work attacking reproductive freedom.

This morning, Republicans filed HB 5, legislation that would ban abortion after 15 weeks, with no exception for rape or incest. A companion bill is expected in the Senate any day.

After the Supreme Court’s hearing on Roe v. Wade at the end of last year, Republican legislators are even more emboldened to restrict abortion rights in Florida this session. With federal protections no longer guaranteed, reproductive rights in Florida could be dealt a fatal blow.

We must ramp up our efforts now, especially in light of HB 5. Ruth’s List is committed to electing and re-electing Democratic pro-choice women across our state. Our incumbent endorsees specifically cannot raise money during the two months of the legislative session, so our support is more critical than ever.
