John,

Last year, we saw extremists in GOP-led state legislatures enact some of the harshest voting restrictions since Jim Crow. Using Trump's baseless voter fraud conspiracies as justification, they introduced over 425 voting restriction bills across 49 states -- and more are written each day.

I'm encouraged to see President Joe Biden's renewed focus on passing voting rights legislation, but Republicans in the Senate have again made it clear they have zero interest in defending our democracy.

I'll be clear about where I stand: If Mitch McConnell and the GOP continue their obstruction, the Senate should make an exception to the filibuster rule to get voting rights protections passed.

Will you sign my petition calling on Senate Democrats to make a filibuster exception to pass the Freedom to Vote Act? Stopping voter suppression is too important, and time is running out.

Last November, the Senate voted 50-49 to raise the debt limit to make sure the federal government didn't default. The only reason that succeeded is because the Senate made an exception to the filibuster rule.

There are some issues we don't allow to get caught in partisan gridlock. Voting rights is one of them. If we can make an exception on the debt ceiling, we can make one to protect voting rights and preserve our democracy.

Join me in urging the Senate to take up the Freedom to Vote Act. If Republicans won't step up, then we must make a filibuster exception to pass this bill.

Thanks,

Mike
