John Lewis said it best — “Democracy is not a state. It is an act.”
I think about those wise words often, but right now in Congress and across America, they ring more true than any other time I’ve been in Washington.
In 2020, voters turned out in record numbers to reject the Trump presidency and flip the Senate. But Republicans are ramping up voter suppression to try to stop the will of the people from ever happening again.
Last year alone, 19 Republican-led states across the country passed 33 bills that restrict the right to vote. Meanwhile, here in Congress, Republicans have used the filibuster to obstruct every single voting rights bill that Senate Democrats have introduced.
It’s time to leave it all on the field — voting rights must be protected. We must stop Republican obstruction as state legislatures ram through more voter suppression bills, and I need your help to get it done.
Add your name to support changing the Senate rules to allow the passage of the Freedom to Vote Act, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, and the Protecting our Democracy Act along a simple majority vote:

These three bills would clean up campaign finance laws, protect civil rights at the ballot box, and set up guardrails to protect and strengthen our democracy.
I also am proud to have secured provisions from the Native American Voting Rights Act into these bills, which would ensure equal access to the electoral process for Native Americans, Alaska Natives, and voters living on Tribal lands.
Our democracy is at its strongest when everyone can make their voices heard, and right now, Congress has a moral imperative to protect the right to vote.
If you’re with me, add your name to support changing the Senate rules to pass crucially important voting rights bills.

Defending our democracy is one of the most important things we can do, and I’m grateful to have you as an ally in this fight. Thank you.
