We’re seeing the consequences of leaving gray wolves unprotected, not just in Yellowstone, but across their northern Rocky Mountain range.

John — We’re devastated by the outcome of the Department of the Interior’s shortsightedness.

Officials announced that 20 gray wolves were killed near Yellowstone National Park over the past few months, the highest rate ever recorded since gray wolves were reintroduced to the park 25 years ago. Now, only an estimated 94 gray wolves remain in Yellowstone, and an entire pack has been “eliminated.”

Without a doubt, this is a tragedy – one we could see coming a mile away when the Trump administration removed the gray wolf from the endangered species list and opened the door to the wolves being hunted again.

We’re seeing the consequences of leaving gray wolves unprotected, not just in Yellowstone, but across their northern Rocky Mountain range. Gray wolves are a vital part of the ecosystem and deserve the protection they need to survive.

SEEC members in Congress are working to conserve our public lands and protect endangered species. That’s why SEEC Member Rep. Don Beyer led the call urging Interior Secretary Deb Haaland in a letter to temporarily restore protections for the gray wolf last month. But it’s become clear that the only way we can protect the gray wolf and other endangered wildlife is to raise our call to action louder, together.

Will you add your name to our petition and join SEEC members’ fight to protect endangered animals like the gray wolves?

John — This decision to remove the gray wolf from the endangered species list was reckless and premature. We’ve had enough of short-sighted decisions when it comes to conservation and the protection of endangered wildlife. Join SEEC members in Congress in protecting endangered species and add your name to our call for action today.
