re: the filibuster & voting rights
Carper for Senate

It’s been just over one year since the January 6th attack on our Capitol when violent insurrectionists sought to obstruct the peaceful transfer of power that is one of the bedrocks of our democracy.

Over the past year, state legislators have embraced Donald Trump’s “Big Lie” about the 2020 election that incited the January 6th attack in order to enact 34 laws across the country with the express purpose of making it harder for Americans to vote in our elections.

At the same time, Senate Republicans are using Trump’s Big Lie and the filibuster to obstruct Democrats’ efforts to protect voting rights and our elections from these types of undemocratic attacks.

This is wrong, John. It goes against everything our democracy represents.

I cannot look the other way as Republican lawmakers seek to undermine our democracy and obstruct us from fulfilling our duties as elected members of Congress to protect the right to vote and our democratic process.

That’s why this week, I will join my fellow Senate Democrats in taking action to advance voting rights legislation.

We must reform the filibuster to make way for voting rights legislation and protect the sanctity of our democracy. If you agree, John, please add your name to mine and help us keep up momentum for protecting voting rights.
