Dear John
Did you see Dominic’s email yesterday?
On behalf of Best for Britain, the
former Attorney General for England and Wales Dominic Grieve wrote to
you and other like-minded supporters to express his concerns over the
Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill, and to urge you to sign our
latest petition.
As the bill progresses through the
House of Lords, Best for Britain has been working closely with peers.
Clause 59 seeks to make protest in Parliament Square effectively
illegal - not with a blanket ban but by creating logistical
impediments to protest that would make it near impossible to carry
out.
This is an insidious erosion of our democratic rights. But
we won’t let this pass us by.
Our work has led us to table
amendments to Clause 59 which would reverse the total ban on protest
in Parliament Square. This would allow Parliament Square to continue
being used as an arena for ordinary people to have their voices heard,
where those voices might well be noticed by those in
power.
We can’t do this without you and
your commitment to the cause. The Government wants to shut down our
voices, but it is only by raising yours that we can stop them.
