The COVID-19 pandemic turned a looming teacher shortage into one that is both immediate and severe. As we look forward, we must not only consider ways to fill labor gaps, but to build a stronger and more diverse educator pipeline. A growing body of evidence points to teacher residencies as an effective preparation model, allowing individuals to spend a school year learning in an expert mentor teacher’s classroom while simultaneously completing community-based, clinically-aligned coursework. Join us as we partner with the National Center for Teacher Residencies for a conversation around how teacher residency programs prepare and retain effective and diverse teachers.

Largely spurred by the 1983 publication of A Nation at Risk, the standards-based reform movement created changes across the education system to align with the idea that student learning should be measured against an objective benchmark for performance. This new approach impacted all aspects of education, including teacher preparation, curriculum and assessment, and accountability measures for educators, schools, and districts. Join us for this conversation with EduDream exploring how the movement addressed structural inequities, along with its unintended consequences and what equitable approaches may be taken to address those consequences.
