Good morning comrades!

New Era Colorado launched the Student Assistance Fund today- January 11; the Fund will provide direct grants to current and former students who owe unpaid student debt to an institution of higher education or collections agency.

  • The intention of these grants is to support students in their efforts to pay back their institutional debts so that they can get their transcripts released, continue their education, transfer schools, get on top of their payments to collection agencies, and move forward with their lives.
  • We need to take a multi-faceted approach to addressing issues of economic injustice that includes policy change as well as direct financial support and resources that people urgently need. New Era Colorado is pursuing policy solutions to student debt, while creating a fund that will address young people’s needs now.

All those with past-due student accounts are encouraged to apply. The Fund will prioritize applications from Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color (BIPOC), to address the disproportionate and compounded impacts of student debt on BIPOC. Colorado residents/ students who owe debt to a CO higher ed institution will be prioritized, but applications from outside CO will be considered. US Citizenship will not be a requirement for access to the Fund.

The application is now open and will remain open through Spring 2022. New Era will run multiple rounds of selection and disbursement, prioritizing grants to applicants based on urgency of need.
