'An increasingly important organization'
Hope you'll take a minute to check out the editorial commentary on the CBS affiliate WISC-TV. The station's editorial director Neil Heinen recognized We Are Many-United Against Hate as "an increasingly important organization" that "is not letting any hate-motivated crime go un-remarked upon. To be silent is to be complicit in fomenting hate." Heinen cited our rapid response to a horrific incident in Milwaukee that is being prosecuted as a hate crime. Heinen concludes his commentary by saying: "We Are Many founder Masood Akhtar called the attack 'the inevitable byproduct of relentless scapegoating and demonizing of immigrants by elected officials.' He's right." Masood expanded on those thoughts in an essay published by the Wisconsin Examiner.
After watching WISC's editorial, reading our statement on the Milwaukee acid attack and checking out Masood's article, consider investing in this "increasingly important organization" to assure the work that's being recognized can continue. Change doesn't just happen. It is made. Making change isn't free. There is a cost.
We're not just taking our message to the media. We're taking it to community groups. And to schools and universities. For example, Masood Akhtar and Mike McCabe recently presented at the Wisconsin Rural Schools Alliance state conference on diversity in rural schools. And both will be keynote speakers at a two-day University of Wisconsin-La Crosse symposium dealing with how best to respond to hate and bias, Masood on the first day and Mike on the second.
If you're in a group that is open to doing something along these lines, or if you have an idea about how our message could be spread in your community, let us know.
And please, please, consider sending a tax deductible gift our way to help assure there won't be the complicity of silence in the face of growing division, hate and violence in our society. You can donate online. Or if you prefer, you can mail a check to:
