John -
In November, President Biden announced that he is renominating Jerome Powell to lead the Federal Reserve, missing a big opportunity to nominate a chair with a commitment to ending fossil fuel finance.
While President Biden failed this important test on climate, it’s not a guarantee that Powell will serve another term. That’s where you come in, John.
Jerome Powell still must be confirmed by the Senate, where he’s already lost three Democratic votes. Powell’s first big test is tomorrow where he will go before the Senate Banking Committee.
We need to act quickly so the Senate knows we won’t settle for another Powell term. That’s why we’re asking if you’ll write to your senators today and demand they vote ‘no’ on his nomination and ‘yes’ on the nomination of Lael Brainard for Vice Chair of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors.
John, can you write to your senators today and ask that they vote against reconfirming Powell?
While this nomination is tough to swallow, remember this: A few months ago, an easy renomination and confirmation for Jerome Powell seemed inevitable.
Now, because everyday people are looking at the Federal Reserve and demanding better, Biden was forced to contend with other options and there were moments when the renomination of Jerome Powell wasn’t certain.
If we keep up our efforts, we have the chance to sink this nomination and get a Fed that prioritizes everyday people. So John, let your senators know where they should stand on Powell by sending them a letter today. >>
We can’t settle for business as usual when the climate crisis worsens every day. As long as Powell refuses to recognize the climate crisis as an urgent and systemic economic threat, we’ll be advocating for a real climate champion at the Fed.
Thanks for your support, John.
